Blog Everyday in May – Day 5

http://www.lovehappydaily.com

Day 5, Monday: Write a ‘How to’ post teaching everyone … well, how to do something! Cooking, crafting, or anything else that takes your fancy.

Photos and what you can do with them besides letting them sit on your phone or computer. (this is a very long and photo heavy post)…

We spend a lot of our life capturing moments, The little things, the big things, the everyday ordinary moment things..

And then do nothing with them..

I wrote this below over the course of a year, just adding parts to it when i remembered it.

Photography and why i love taking photos.
POSTED ON JANUARY 10, 2014

Photography and why i love taking photos.

Edited to note: {I have just come across this in my files, and don’t know if i have ever posted it}… I think i might try and work out a way to include this into my One little Word and Project life Albums.

I am all about capturing memories BIG or small. Taking delight in the little things around me, and the big occasions that are etched in the subconscious that come back to me from time to time and bring a smile. The simple smile of a child at play to the wedding of a loved one surrounded by all who mean something to me, they all bring with it some kind of memory.

Then there is the everyday stuff, you know the food on the table, the pretty pastel of flowers in little glasses that adorn the table, the candle flickering in the slight breeze. The soft sand glistening against the emerald colour water of the ocean.

I spend a lot of time taking photos of shapes of clouds and the moon in all of its fullness. The 50 shades of grey that the little bumps and bruises and craters create.

Christmas is a special time to capture that magic that we are surrounded by. The twinkling lights on the tree, the glitter on the baubles that make light shadows on the wall behind it. Little crystals that shimmer when the lights hit them.

All around us are potential photo opportunities. Travel whether it be close to home or to far away lands. The sights and scenes of history that becomes but a flicker of a memory until you look at the photos again and it takes you back to that time.

I spend a majority of my days either taking photos, sorting them, or thinking about them in some way. Be it researching a new camera, or for many years creating scrapbooking albums to preserve memories for my daughter. I have sat for many many hours scanning the memories of my Grandparents, my parents, my husbands family many who i have never met but feel like in some way i have gotten to know because of the faces in the photos. I can put a face to the name when jack is recalling his memories of his family.

  • Jacks Grandmother. His Uncle sent him this photo on Facebook, the funny thing is i printed it out and ended up finding the original in Jacks Project Life Album that i had created. Which said volumes to me as if these where still in a box i would have never known that we had the original.

*Jacks Uncle also posted the above photos a year or so apart. It does help that he has put on one of them who is who. But also that we have one that hasn’t been digitally altered.

I have filled a large wooden box full of those old happy snaps, negatives slides and hand written notes of days gone by. Photos are my life in a way. It makes me feel closer to those no longer with us, it helps to recall and remember the good times and bad.

Over the years many a camera has sat in these hands of mine, Film, polaroid, digital, Point & shoot, DSLR. All have captured something that triggers something for me.

*Us on the cruise in 2011.

For me personally it has been when my husband Jack and I eloped, oh how i wish in ways we could travel back in time and have a professional photographer there to capture what a dear friend caught. I have one photo of that day, its sits by our bed, reminds me of who we where and how far we have come.

*Angel New Years Eve 2013.

The birth of our daughter, so small and delicate, i a first (and only) time mother never wanting to hold a new baby after holding my young nephew when he was in hospital (later passing away).

The homes from ground up to shinny and new appliances and gadgets that have made the everyday stuff a little easier.

Walking behind my husband and daughter, me snapping away, he so tall and confident and her holding his hand and over the years seeing her grow into an almost teenager.

#Ayearofus2013

I delight in all of it. I recall snippets from those times often. Play it over in my head like a movie and smile and reflect with a smile all because i held a camera in my hands. Adventures to far off lands, or closer to home. The shadows in the sand, water lapping at my toes. The whole taking the moment in, and finding the joy in the Journey. My Journey…

NOW WHAT DO WE DO AFTER WE HAVE CAPTURED THE MOMENTS.

I don’t know why but for some reason over recent days i have been thinking about the above post. I try and capture those moments and corral them into one place so i can pass them onto future generations. Now personally i have no idea if they will be appreciated, or even if those yet to be will even care that i have taken the time to document the snippets and slices of everyday life. On various groups lately it has been discussed about how little photos a lot of people have growing up in the days before Digital, and how many we have now. That we won’t be leaving behind a box or album of memories but Computer Hard Drives and External Hard Drives, CD/DVD’s full of Memories just sitting in Cyberspace. It is also a shame that they won’t know the backstories behind the photos of those no longer with us.

I have been scrapbooking since 2005. I started out by going to a Creative Memories Party (Thanks Tracey 🙂 ). After that party i went home and got onto the internet and found an online group called Aussie Layouts it was part of a Qld Scrapbooking Shop. The group has now disbanded (one of the joys of Facebook is a lot of us are still in touch). Part of the group involved doing challenges and printing out the photos and turning them into scrapbooking layouts. Yes that is some of them above there are more in the Albums that i featured at the top of the page and even more again in my scrapbooking area. After a number of years and stacks of paper and products later i was burnt out and pretty much put a stop to any form of scrapbooking.

Last year I discovered Project Life, and it reawakened my love for this craft that captures life the way it is. I am loving the process of getting our everyday out of my Macbook and documenting it.

Below is the same photo of us that we took for our #12monthsofus project. (yes i have a lot of Projects on the go)..

Original photo taken on my Camera.

Same photo printed out and used in a layout for #52weeksofartjournaling

Used in the iPhone Collect App and ready to be re-printed and put into Project Life.

So what else can i do with a photo.

An album i made over the easter weekend of Angel.
We went out on Good Friday and i took around 100 photos of her standing on a bridge, i came home and printed a stack of them out and used them in this Memory File.

(1) Melissa and the Boys had a photo taken with the Easter Bunny in WA. (2)Again thanks Facebook for enabling me to “Borrow” the photo, create a collage out of it (3) and then print it and use it in my Project life album. Melissa probably still has hers on her phone. 🙂

I picked this up at our local cheap shop for just under $3.00. I hope that i will be able to put some old photo’s into it.

This is what we do now with digital photos …

This was taken on Saturday night, We brought the movie Frozen. if you have a QR Code Reader you can see Angel singing Let it go.

So Print those photo’s out and put them into a frame, a scrapbook or Project Life Album, Make a keyring, or even a bracelet out of an old watch just get them printed.
